Mulashidi, Putao – Myaw Lint Yar (HOPE) officially opened its first Drug Awareness Hall today, May 8, 2025, at its main office in Mulashidi, Putao. The hall is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use, provide educational resources, and equip parents and youth with the skills needed to prevent substance abuse in the community.

The event featured a welcoming speech by HOPE’s Board of Director, Myitung Gam, three community leaders perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an insightful tour of the hall led by Sayama Ngwa Mi Nu, who guided visitors through the exhibits.

Over 180 attendees, including youth, adults, and special guests from the community, participated in the opening, marking a significant step in the fight against drug addiction in the region.

This Drug Awareness Hall is the first of its kind in Putao, reflecting HOPE’s broader mission to combat drug abuse through community collaboration, vocational training, and income-generating opportunities for marginalized populations in the far eastern reaches of the Himalayan mountain range.

This local method is used to confine and control individuals who abuse drugs and engage in violence within the community. (Note: HOPE does not use this “cold turkey” approach but includes it here for educational purposes.)
HOPE continues to work closely with local communities to address the complex challenges of drug use, promoting long-term recovery and self-sufficiency for the people of Putao.
